Toyota Yaris Hybrid debuts in Geneva

The Toyota Yaris Hybrid, featuring the most compact Hybrid Synergy Drive from Toyota, has been designed to make it the most affordable full hybrid vehicle in Europe. The vehicle has made its world premier at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show

The Yaris is Toyota’s bestselling model in Europe. The small car is a good value for money proposition and is ideal for teenagers and first-time car buyers. Toyota will be adding a flagship variant to the Yaris model line-up, the Toyota Yaris Hybrid, so as to further its appeal. The Yaris Hybrid features Toyota’s Hybrid Synergy Drive system that will make it the first full hybrid model in the European B-Segment.

The Yaris Hybrid wears the new Toyota design language while giving priority to aerodynamic efficiency. The new car has been designed to be economical while providing agile handling traits and refined driving experience of the regular Yaris.

Toyota has downsized its Hybrid Synergy Drive system for the Yaris Hybrid. It mates the 1.5-litre petrol engine to a more compact electric motor, battery pack, transaxle and inverter. The Hybrid Synergy Drive in the Toyota Yaris Hybrid is 20 percent lighter than the same system in the Toyota Auris Hybrid.

The lighter and smaller Hybrid Synergy Drive system in the Yaris Hybrid means that it can be accommodated alongside the fuel tank of the Yaris, which is under the rear seat. This means that the Yaris Hybrid offers the same boot space of 286 litres as the conventional petrol and diesel Toyota Yaris models.

The Toyota Yaris Hybrid will come loaded with all the features that are available in the conventional Yaris models such as climate control air-conditioning and the e-CVT automatic gearbox.
