Your eyes do not deceive you. This is the Range Rover Evoque Convertible Concept, and it’s headed to the Geneva motor show on March 6.
It may just be a concept at this stage, but Land Rover global brand director John Edwards admits the public’s reaction to the car will be closely followed throughout the show.
“The Range Rover Evoque Convertible Concept is a new twist to the Range Rover Evoque story and explores the potential to further extend the nameplate’s appeal by giving existing customers more choice, whilst at the same time reaching out to a completely new customer base,” Edwards said.
“We are excited to see the response to this concept as we assess the potential for building on the Range Rover Evoque’s exceptional success so far.”
Land Rover design director Gerry McGovern said the bold soft-top concept was designed to expand the urban appeal of the resurgent brand’s ultra-stylish city car.
“The Range Rover Evoque lends itself beautifully to the idea of a convertible,” McGovern said.
“This study is not a traditional convertible design execution – instead we have worked with the balance of the Range Rover Evoque’s lines to retain its distinctive shape and create something that is unique and, we believe, highly desirable.”
The fully retractable roof integrates a rollover protection system for enhanced safety, and stows away below the shoulder line in front of the new drop-down tailgate.
Based on the Evoque coupe, the Convertible Concept remains largely faithful to the hardtop design. The concept scores 21-inch alloy wheels, new grey metallic paint, Lunar and Ivory leather seats, and a Meridian sound system with eight-inch touchscreen.
If the Range Rover Evoque Convertible does make it to production, it will join the Nissan Murano CrossCabriolet in one of the automotive world’s most exclusive niches.
