Infiniti Emerg-e: Quicker than an Aston Martin, greener than a Prius

Infiniti has confirmed the powertrain and performance details of its mid-engined hybrid sports car concept, the Infiniti Emerg-e, and we’re happy to report they make for mouth-watering reading.
Officially unveiled at today’s Geneva motor show after a series of teasers and leaks in the previous weeks, the Infiniti Emerg-e is a stunning concept. Infiniti’s trademark design elements, including the concave/convex grille, exaggerated panel creases and pinched side windows, come together naturally in the elegant yet aggressive sports coupe.
Not only does the Emerg-e concept have the style to match Ferrari and Aston Martin, it’s got performance potential to give them a decent scare too.
The 4.4m Infiniti Emerg-e is powered by a petrol engine and two electric motors, which combine for a maximum output of 300kW. That’s enough to propel the sleek concept from 0-100mph (0-96.6km/h) in 4.0 seconds, and from 0-130mph (0-209km/h) in 30 seconds.
When driven more sedately, Infiniti says the Emerg-e concept has an all-electric range of 48km, and emits just 55g/km of CO2 when driven in range-extender hybrid mode, which translates to fuel consumption of 2.3 litres per 100km.
There’s no word on a production version of the Emerg-e at this stage, but the Nissan-owned luxury sports car maker says the concept provides “an exciting glimpse into Infiniti’s future”.
